This was one of the highlights of our trip to Cuba! We met Kensys and the driver, Kent, at Mediterraneo Havana and were immediately made to feel comfortable and welcome. We had a great chat on the short drive to the farm while Kensys told us a bit about the history of the restaurant and the farm as well as about farming in Cuba. We then met Raidel at the farm who gave us an overview of Finca Vista Hermosa while feeding us delicious fruit. Then he walked us through some of the farm, telling us about the eco-friendly and sustainable farming practices and the crops and livestock. We got to see the pigs and the cheese and sausage production building and shared a drink of fresh sugar cane juice. We then rode horses (first time for one of us!) to an amazing lookout point where we could see the whole farm as well as the ocean and Havana in the distance. We then headed back to the restaurant where we had one of the best meals of our whole trip. The chance to taste the meats and cheeses from the farm was amazing (some of the best ricotta I’ve ever had). The portions were very generous and the welcome cocktail was an unexpected treat. We had fabulous conversation with Kensys over dinner and our waiter Ricardo was fabulous too. One thing that really made this experience so special for us was how open Kensys and Raidel were to talking to us about their lives in Cuba, we really felt like we got to know them! We highly recommend this experience to anyone with more than a day in Havana! It was truly special and a fantastic day.
